The Sensory Path of Mont'Arrubiu was inaugurated in 2011 at the Environmental Education Center (former barracks) and is located in the Campidano State Forest, in the Soleminis forest. The Sensory Path has been conceived as a tool to develop through the use of the five senses a new knowledge of the forest based on emotions and sensations that can arise from a visit to the forest. It is an innovative and interactive choice for the enhancement of the natural environment that uses a new approach, involving, fun and contextualized on the territory. Along the path there are five stages equipped with information panels, where the operators of the Ente Foreste will guide the visitor through practical experiments that they will stimulate the five senses one at a time. In less than 900 steps the path winds its mark of smell, sight, touch, taste and hearing, with valuable tips to learn how to recognize aromatic herbs, trees and different types of leaves, find out what animals eat and birdsong. The trail is particularly suitable and entertaining especially for children, who are involved by the operators with experiments, games and the compilation of a questionnaire. The imposing Nuraghe Diana is the best preserved nuragic complex of the entire Quartese territory. Called in ancient times "Jana", for centuries it has been buried with earth and debris. In the 50s, archaeologists began to study it, but it was excavated only in 2000. It was built 35 meters above sea level on the hill near Is Mortorius, almost exclusively using granite boulders. Its construction dates back to the Bronze Age. It is the first Iron Age, between 1100 and 1300 BC. C. The mighty construction reveals a trilobed (triangular) plant, formed by a main tholos and by your smaller towers, connected to each other by a thick walled circle. The entrance is located south-east inside the cyclopic walls and on the sides of the corridor there are two small niches built inside. The imposing rectangular open-air courtyard that allows access to all environments, 5 in total. Reached the center of the courtyard, we receive the imposing portal of the main tower, which dominated the sea and the surrounding area. Inside there are two side cells to the east and west, while at the top we can see the tholos almost intact with the hatch access to the military turret. The fort, which currently dominates the construction, was erected on its summit during the Second World War; at the time the nuraghe was not very visible and appeared like a hill with outcropping rocks. The bunker was the tallest construction of the Carlo Faldi anti-ship battery by Is Mortorius, to which it was connected both visually and by radio. Returning to the courtyard, on either side of the main tower are the accesses to the two secondary towers that protected the entrance. Close to the main tower, on the right we see a small opening that led to the stairwell to go upstairs, while on the left we see a secondary room paved with flat stones, probably a deposit. A building detail that characterizes the nuraghe Diana is the use of large boulders also in the upper part of the walls, in contrast to the law of overlapping loads used at the time and that makes the nuraghe stylistically similar to a Dolmen (megalithic tomb). Another recurring detail is the crown architrave and the many triangular loopholes, present both above each portal and in some key sections of the walls. Legend of the nuraghe Diana: Legend has it that a treasure of inestimable value was hidden in a well near the nuraghe by the famous pirate Giacomo Mugahid, who had chosen that coast as a landing place. The pirate, after a misfortune, never returned, leaving his companion in the coast, who spent the rest of his life scanning the sea and waiting in vain for his return. The body of the desperate woman was found inside the nuraghe and after his death many say they saw her materialize on the cliff. The Capitana was called by the local people, from which the town takes its name. These beliefs handed down over the years by the elderly of Quartu have led to fever for the search for treasure, causing looting and excavation near the Nuraghe Diana to search for the mysterious well. In particular, a long tunnel was excavated under the main keep. According to a recently published book, it seems that the treasure is cursed because it is guarded by the souls of Slavic slaves who have been trapped alive with it. On the first floor, starting from 1938, all the wooden models necessary for the reproduction in the foundry of spare parts of machinery and other metal objects commonly used in the mine were kept. The workshop for forging and tempering foils (the tips of pneumatic hammers) was modernized and enlarged in 1912 and was a laboratory of fundamental importance for the construction and maintenance of the metal tools necessary for mining. The blacksmiths applied in the modern mining production an ancient art that for centuries has characterized this territory. The foundry was built in 1885 and modernized in 1912. It housed the systems for the melting of cast iron and lead jets of the mechanical elements necessary for the maintenance of the mine plants and for the construction of new machinery. The ovens, the shapes, the molds and the other tools for the fusion are visible. The mechanical workshop was built in 1938 as a vehicle maintenance building. The building was enlarged in 1948 reaching its current size. It was equipped with the most modern technical equipment for small and large carpentry works, a sliding bridge crane for repairing and assembling work machinery and for normal maintenance of transport vehicles. Acquafredda castle is an important fortified structure of medieval times, just 4 km from the center Siliqua and rises on an ancient volcanic cone 256 meters high above sea level. With a decree of 1993, the site called "Domo Andesitico di Acquafredda" has been officially declared a Natural Monument. From its summit the hill overlooks the Cixerri valley and access to the ancient mining town of Villa di Chiesta, the ancient Iglesias. It is considered a relevant site for flora, fauna and landscape. A bit of history: According to a Papal bull dated 30 July 1238 it seems that the castle existed already in 1215, although it is widely believed to attribute its construction to the first half of the thirteenth century and to the famous Pisan noble called Ugolino Della Gherardesca, made famous in Dante's Inferno. Awarded the title of Count of Donoratico since 1257, he became Lord of all the south-east of Sardinia after the fall of the Giudicato of Cagliari. The Count fell into disgrace and was imprisoned by deception in Pisa in the tower of Gualandi then called "Torre della Fame" where he died in 1288. The vicissitudes of Count Ugolino have become illustrious thanks to the 23rd canto of the Canticle of Hell by Dante Alighieri in his Divine Comedy. With the imprisonment of Count Ugolino the castle passed into the hands of the Pisans first and then the Spaniards (Crown of Aragon) in 1326. In 1408 a document certifies the abandonment of the walls by the troops stationed inside it, which has become useless on an island almost entirely conquered by the Aragonese troops. It became a fiefdom and was entrusted to Pietro Otger, later it was established in barony in the 16th century. It is not clear if the castle was then inhabited, but we have certain information about the state of abandonment dating back to 1785, where the castle is called '' destroyed ''. The fortification is divided into three different defensive levels: the village, the tank tower and the castle itself. The Castle and the Watchtower: In the highest part of the fortress built to 256 meters we find the walls of the castle itself, the residence of the castellan and his court.
